     ......  HISTORY , Stories and  INFLUENCES .

      Painting artworks is my forte' . Beginnings at the age of Four and Five, and throughout the years of education . More seriously with the community since the 1980's . See Artist History. ( Above to the left - push History Button , Thank you ).

... I would say that my youth , being amongst beauty on the Island for which I grew up , became idealized , and showing up in my artworks . Beauty and color felt a very positive and natural force . . . and still today , positivity feels very important in all that we do and give and share ... It really is one world .  

      My upbringing was amongst a Mediteranean style island in Southern California . Red tiled roofs with patios of bougainvillea spilling over with color, especially in the summer seasons . All of the street names were of European origins , so this sparked my interests as I matured , and started traveling and studying history . 

    Beauty , great weather , and relaxed luxury .

   I did not know this at the time, I had my peanut butter sandwiches , and rode my Schwinn bicycle to the beach to go surfing . 

    Influences of Visual beauty , film , music , travels and Universities . My parents and their friends were highly educated and cultural .

    My Father's side of the family , back a few generations , two brothers in Copenhagen Denmark , started building a wood ship , at the age of seventeen , and sailed south around the tip of South America and then North up to the San Francisco Bay area , deciding to venture on down to Los Angeles , California . They started a dairy farm in the green valley there , which is now Wilshire Boulevard , across from the Ambassador Hotel site area.

   Their travels did not end, sailing back down around South America and up to Denmark to pick up their families , and returning on the same route back to Los Angeles , and to their dairy farm .

  My own family always had projects going , so hands on work was natural to me . Vacations were spent exploring the island of Kauai , hiking the Sierra Mountains of California or skiing .

   The entertainment industry was close by in Hollywood and influencing . Movies and Television were mesmerizing to me , as is music , theatre and the arts in general . Stories and visuals , views and sound .

   Some neighbors across the bay were John Wayne and Buddy Ebsen . 

    My Father's neighbor friends as a child were actors Gene Lockhart from the film " Casa Blanca " , and his daughter June Lockhart from " Lassie " .

   One interesting story of my Father's was his outing one day buying an old car for my Mother's friend " Mother Goose ", as we called her ... She was like an aunt to us .  She had wanted a car similar to my Mother's .

    He had arrived to look at the old car for sale , given the housekeeper some money for the car , and she handed him the keys . As he was walking away she said , " you know , you now have Natilie Woods Mercedes." Dad had an eye for interesting cars . His hobby was rebuilding old classic Italian sports types .

   Father's Father & his Brother , Hugo and Eddie Schmidt worked with the large design of the Golden Era of Businessmen and women's clothing , Hollywood movie stars & celebrities. Hugo the 1st , worked with the businessmen and Eddie with the entertainment industry and celebrities . " Gone with The Wind " and many other sensational movies were the high caliber of style .  

  Clark Gable , Fred Astair , Lawrence Olivier , Marlene Dietrich , Katherine Hepburn , The Prince of Wales , were just some of Eddie Schmidt's clients .

     My Mother was in Home and Office interior design . Later moving towards product buying and management and design of gift stores , and also a gift store owner . Her buying trip travels included San Francisco , Los Angeles , Atlanta, New York in the U.S.A. , and Paris , France .

      She was always in creative projects . Sewing new clothing for herself and all of us when we were in our youth. Her cooking was extensive , classic , and interesting . She was constantly designing areas in our home and gardening . One of her Antique finds was a large Spanish door from The William Randolph Hearst Collection . Mr Hearst collected items for his castle . My Mother made a dining table from it .

   Her Mother was in theatre . My Father and Brother in innovative professional Dentistry and my younger Brother is in Garden, design,  and Art .

   University time ...

    graduating with honors from University California Santa Barbara  ,,, Letters and Science Department in Art - Painting . Also extended courses at College of Creative Studies , also located within the UCSB campus .  My professors were well known artists at the time , and are also today . I extended my education further down the road in design , various art techniques and architectural history . It is all very interesting to me .

    Since my college years I have worked with Museums , Interior designers , Galleries , Families' homes , and their Commercial Businesses installing artwork , Decorative theme painting , Designing , and Creating fine art paintings , and commissions . Possibly over one thousand projects . I have tried various other types of work , yet creating artworks has always been my first love .

     Art and interests : Studying positive aspects of healthy world cultures ,  and traditions , inspire & interest me . Language and universal positive ideas also . It is one world . Film , music , writing , stories , food , language , traditions , work ,

 family  &  environment .  

    Besides formal education ,which is important , " Life experience plays a large role in the paintings' feeling , subject matter and what I consider important , fun , interesting , universal and sometimes eternal . " 

     One very important experience was being amongst indigenous peoples throughout Central America . Their viewpoint with their arts was a direct connection to their real natural world , surroundings of beauty of nature . Colorful animals and birds were woven or hand stitched throughout their cultural traditions of clothing and fabrics . Pottery also showed this .

    In my France and Italy travel , I was exposed to a huge history of hand built architecture , furniture and artworks . Unbelievably amazing qualities which influence my continuation of art .

    Travel and studying museums I Love . Central America , Mexico , Italy , France  & USA . Painting in New York City .

English classics , Asian study , & human nature is fascinating . World History , Nature .

      Emotional wellbeing , enjoyment ,  and interest for the viewer  . I've always enjoyed  folksy style  paintings and some abstract styles and classics . The images symbolize inner truths , and often are also heartwarming and simple natural wholesome everyday items of comfort and life  .  Adding good spirit , with technique , to the paintings adds goodness to the everyday viewing , and our very important living environments .

    Spiritual ,  positivity , and healing is interesting . Humor also seems necessary .

   The " Reflection " or abstract series of paintings often are zen - like  and / or  

abstract expressionistic & colorful . Emotionally and positively charged  or soothing and restful . Many have meaning for the self or the viewer .  Architecture , Style , Design , Artwork , Music , Nature , Origins , Intuition , Rhythms & Patterns , Gardens , Dance , Musically written words , Nice  energy flow , are some of the elements I ponder and feel while painting .

   Like playing a piano or building something out of wood ... creativity , design and intuition play a large role in the final product .

     Food and friends , family , hiking , surfing , travel , restfulness .
